Unit 3:Life is a Process of Celebration

My artworks reflect on the ways I explore the process of self-cognition, and the relationship between my spiritual world and the macroscopic world. They are underpinned by theories that refer to a spectrum of combinative theories, including Existential Nihilism, Absurdism, Entropy, biological mechanism. Although these theories are independent, their interrelation inspires me to reflect on who I am and the world’s nature. It also empowers me to get rid of nihilism and move into a state of existential nihilism.

It features multiple layers with abstract elements that were refined in my daily life. The way of organizing multiple layers in the artworks is similar to work as a music conductor who harmoniously instructs many different types of musicians to perform a symphony; Or as if I was a perfume maker who refines different ingredients from Mother Nature to create a bottle of perfume.  Lastly, I try to test the artworks by presenting them in different environments for creating a sense of different atmosphere and experience.

I am pursuing a state of peace, free and pleasant. I use metacognitive skills to reflect on the meaning of the meaning of life, as well as paying attention to the beauty of useless movements. Such as starlings flock in murmurations, the phenomenon of fish school, rooster crow. From the perspective of decentralization,  I think the phenomenon of animals mechanism resonates with dancers, singers, painters, poets, etc. Then, I realize life can be a process of celebration; By no means everything needs purpose or meaning.

Unit 2:The Fantastic New World

My works reflect on how I perceive and respond to the great perspective of the individuals, society, universe, time, and space. I explore the relationship between individuals and the macroscopic world. The artworks are underpinned by theories that refer to a spectrum of combinations of philosophical theories, including Existential Nihilism, Absurdism, Entropy, as well as the phenomenon of biological groups and the movements that were created by myself. Although these theories are independent, their interrelation inspires me to reflect on who I am and the world’s nature.

I use multiple layers by digital paint to create the artworks, which enables me to rethink and work as if I was a music conductor in the process of the creation, and my duty is just like a conductor who harmonically instructs many different types of musicians in a symphony orchestra in order to create a wonderful symphony. In the foreground, I look into the microcosmic world in which I extract the features from a shoal of fish or the arrangement of falling petals. By looking at the singular and the groups of objects, I question the meaning of the individuals in the face of the ephemerality of life. In the second layer, I experimented on my hairs and photographed them as they inform my works to convey so much meaning. For instance, hair is the trace of experience that is similar to our memories that are the results of our past experiences recording. Furthermore, Hairs are very personal because everyone’s hairs contain their unique DNA. Moreover, bring digital process allows me to shape hair into different forms, such as flowing rivers, optical fiber, and massive expressways. At the end of the process, the images create the effect of shining polar lights as I burn my hair, and finally, they become ash. The third layer and the background are created by refining the elements arranging from the high-tech products and metropolis night views, symbolize the prosperity of advanced civilization and humans’ various desires.

I’m looking in different scales arrange from microcosmic object to the macroscopic world by using digital paint to create the works with the combination of multiple layers that allow me to compress different objects, speeds, transparency, movements, and spaces together with rich colors in order to engage the viewers to immerse in the fantastic moment of the present regardless of everything will be gone at the end.

Unit 1

My work explores a real and illusionary relationship between the material world and the spiritual world. My concentration started when I realized that life is a process of being hurt, and everything will be gone. Then I was influenced by the Taoist and Buddhism philosophy. If we observe the world rationally, we will think all objects are negligible from a macroscopical perspective, Because of their existence is accidental, and they will be lost inevitably, including human beings and everything in the world; But from a microcosmic perspective, for the individuals, we can construct the meaning of life in our chaotic spiritual world. There are two philosophical concepts involved here: nihilism, which is a rational cognition of the material world. Another is optimistic existential nihilism. It advocates subjectively paying attention to the beautiful things in life through the spiritual world.

Basically, my works consist of two layers by using colourful markers, acrylic paints and colourful stickers. The first layer is an abstract combination from a macroscopic perspective. It is ethereal and inspired by flowing water, clouds, fireworks, and fluorescent lights. It is composed of countless superimposed lines that are just like the trace of life after every judgment and choice we made. The second layer comes from my concern and thinking about the current society, and extracts a semi-abstract form through it, such as the night view of the city, the Internet and the virtual world, the highly integrated computer mainboard and so on. They represent our desire, our yearning for the world. It is prosperous, cutting-edge, intelligent and influential.

I try to perceive the current world from a macroscopical perspective and explore my inner perception of the material world and the spiritual world between reality and illusion.
